National Archives and Records Service of South Africa. By preserving public records created by governmental bodies as archives, the National Archives and Records Service seeks to preserve the memory of what a governmental body, an organisation or an individual did, as well as the circumstances and context connected with the activity. Archival records therefore help us to understand who we are, either as individuals or as organisations, and where we come from. By providing us with information about our past, we are better able to undersand the present.

road surveyors of the PMB roads in Voortrekker times
It has been passed down that an ancestor was involved in the laying out of the original Voortrekker roads in the 1800s but I can find no trace of his name. Is there perhaps a list of people involved in the laying out of the roads?

In particular there was Hendrick Jacobus Phillipus Martens born 1849 and married to Elizabeth Ann Magnus. We understand her father was the curator at Alexandra Park gardens, but I can find no mention of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

family bibles that were kept at the Voortrekker Museum
The Martens family Bible was apparently kept at Voortrekker Museum, but when interested family members tried to trace it there was no record. Does anyone know where these bibles went, or if they are stored somewhere else now?

Langalibalele rebellion: re-enactment of the ride in 1973/4
I would be most keen to get hold of a copy of the article that I think Arthur Bowland wrote on the above topic. A booklet was published and a wonderful article written. My father was part of this ride and I would love to know more about it.
